You might be able to use some shim stock. I'd suggest brass (dunno if they make bronze shim stock.) If the two halves of the clamp are touching, perhaps you can file off some of each "leg" of one... |

Are the two halves of the clamp touching each other, or is there still daylight between them? My Magma grill has a "lever" that's actually the "nut" on a stud on one half of that clamshell clamp.... |
