Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

Sorry no diagram yet.. rug rat keeps crawling up my leg...

Yes and no to your cheap multiple devices idea. The more expensive devices are going to be a lot more robust with optoisolators...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

Yes using a suitable connector block you simply connect them together.

I'll try to do a drawing later if I get time.

The talker device will only be one of those standards so it depends on...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

An NMEA0183 talker can feed four listeners. You don't need another device.

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

As I mentioned way up the thread these budget radios often have very crappy interfaces.

Other that what you have already discussed the issue could be with a power supply sag as the radio is...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

Yes even then. I have connected just about every possibility. I cut my teeth on this stuff as telecoms engineer working in data comms back in the 1980s.

Anyway the OP needs to confirm that he has...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

Another look at the suppliers site shows that the PPS version of this device uses two black wires but the one in question should only use the one on pin 1. So the black wire from pin 1 of the GPS...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

Not being funny but are the rest of your connections as bad as those?

Got a link to the source of the GPS and the datasheet. Let's work through this. It could be the GPS but more likely...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

Yerrr that is why RS232 (your standard computer serial) sometimes doesn't work with NMEA0182 (now in the later versions close to RS422). There is some overlap but they are not the same.

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

RS 422 signal levels are 2 > 6V

Power supply to the unit could be anything of course.

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

This ^^^^^^^^

Basically if somebody has to ask how to make these connection there is no point bombarding them with technicalities (as much as some of us like technicalities ;) ) It's got to be...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

That is because the original NMEA0183 was a specification in its own right. physical and electrical as well as the other levels in the stack. It was brought into line with an RS specification as the...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

I have never had one not work... no there was one, a very old GPS that complied exactly with the NMEA specification that would not work with RS232 levels. Other than that the number that I have...

Re: How to output GPS signal to a DSC radio?

Most modern gear will take RS232 straight from a serial port. So just get a bog standard USB to serial cable . Pin 5 is GND and Pin 2 and 3 your data pins... If you don't know which data pin you need...
