Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

It's definitely something that's at the back of my mind.
However, being on the frugal side of things, I'm hopeful my savings will allow me a couple years of exploration before having to figure out a...

Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

To be honest, what I am really worried about are the coral reefs.

Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

I completely agree with that.
I think the main differences are that the risk tolerance people have now is much lower than 40 years ago and the comfort "expectations" are much higher. Therefore it's...

The adventure of course
I love boats, but to me, it's mostly a mean to an end.
I am after experiences such as :

- Seeing an island slowly pop on the horizon
- Diving a coral reef with...

Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

I am sorry to hear about that.
It reinforces my determination to see this through and not wait until retirement.

Thanks Sojourner !
I will have to reinstall Facebook to check it, but...

Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

Thanks a lot everyone for your stories, it is quite inspiring and much appreciated.

I want to clarify that I am not in a burn-out or sick of my current situation, I love diving and being able to...

I live in Dover down south. Working for the good ol' tassie salmon farms.
Tassie is beautiful in summer and I've enjoyed the waters a lot.
Winters not so much

I'd be happy to meet up if...

Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

Good to know I'm not the only obsessed one around
I love the fact that you went back at it several times rather than a long saving stretch followed by a permanent retiring.
I cannot see...

Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

Yes, I won't have nearly enough to retire, but I don't plan on retiring either.
After these 5 years of saving, I'll be around 250-300k Aud$ worth of savings.
I plan on investing about half, buy a...

Re: Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

That definitely hit home.
I have been living for the last 3 years spending only about 20-25% of my income and saving the rest.
Living in sharehouses, driving a 1991 commodore slowly to use...

Anybody around in their late 20's, saving hard for their dreams ?

Good morning ladies and gents.

I am well aware that cruising safely and boats in general cost a lot of money, making it a more likely lifestyle for "end of career", retirees or very successful...
