Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

My update... We installed a Nardi Atlantic 100 compressor, 230v 3 phase. Our boat is 120 volts, so a transformer steps it up to 230 and then a frequency drive ramps up from about 15 hz to the 50 hz...

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Impressive. I have bookmarked https://compressorstuff.com/portables/mch6MP.html and will definitely be in the market when the new ride arrives.

Related: use of this setup. I presume I could mount...

Thumbs up Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Thank you, rcontreras. Others, like me, are sure to love an official position! Hopefully it will also help you get some business as a result.

You surely must have read several other speculative...

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Bauer does this, though it does cost about $1000 more. The problem is that when you have that engine you can't get the yacht package which also drains the compressor as you fill the tanks. There is...

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

That last paragraph is great to know. I know someone who has used the same generator and I believe somehow gets 230v out of it (converted from 115v?) and converts that to 3 phase. If that's all it...

Cheaper how, if all the same equipment is already on the boat?

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Your post reminded me of another reason I want an electric compressor: the yacht package with automatic drains.

Also, I'd like the smallest generator I can get away with.

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Not wrong. I am not concerned about the time frame for filling.

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

It's Northern Lights. I originally thought I'd do a 220 volt boat but was talked out of it.

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Thanks Captain Bill and john61ct. Now I guess the follow up question is whether there is an advantage or disadvantage to choosing a 230v compressor over a 115v?

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Very well written, Rumpi.
1. 1.5kw for the 115v Bauer Junior II seems to be what the specs say
2. There are options. The 115v I just mentioned is probably mine.
3. I have not a clue what this...

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

I agree. In Annapolis I will be searching out some purveyors of compressors to do a face to face. I can probably find a generator salesman there too and get them together if there is a lack of...

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

My approach is simple, Rumpi. Come up with a way to run an electric compressor on a boat. My original thought was that it should run straight off of the generator but a seller of the compressors...

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Did the gen you always put out 220v, or was it wired for 110v to the house and 220v when it was needed for the compressor?

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

My RV had a 20kw generator that would run everything. Everything until my wife turned on her hair dryer. That always seemed to be the killer. Hot water heater, 4 cruisairs, lights, chargers, tvs,...

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

I think you may be the answer I'm looking for!

If a VFD is all that's needed and is cheap to boot it seems like using one to power the more prevalent (I think) 230v 3-phase compressor is the...

I thought you may be interested in the reply I got from the compressor sales person. Does anyone know offhand how you can get 3 phase power from a standard generator?

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

Hookah won't help with a wreck dive. Maybe great for hull cleaning though.

Re: Powering an electric dive compressor

I put Outbacks in my RV but not sure about them in a marine environment as no one seems to mention them.

I would agree with spending=education time. A follow up post of mine will include requests...
