Re: Battery Switches.

Yes following best practices

wire alternator, all significant inputs, direct to House

charge Starter via automated combiner / ACR / VSR etc

and only use these bank switches to direct load...

Re: Battery Switches.

AFD is not something an alternator has or doesn't have.

The questions are

1. is the alt designed to work with an external regulator?

or if not,

2. can an alternator shop modify its wiring

Re: Battery Switches.

Some alternators are not "AFD ready" without modification, similar to that needed for using an external VR

Re: Battery Switches.

Higher-level reco: don't buy any such devices that don't have detailed instructions clearly written by native speakers.

Re: Battery Switches.

That BSS ML series ACR is fine for decades of RTW cruising, 100% bulletproof, just don't fail, will outlast the hull, your great grandkids will inherit it.

Re: Battery Switches.

These are not easy to wire correctly even for pro's.

Maybe the BSS docs match that cheap switch, maybe not.

Re: Battery Switches.

Likely a feature to cut field power to the alt to try to prevent blowing alt diodes.

Better to find the documentation for that switch.

Or best of all, spend the extra on Blue Sea.

Re: Battery Switches.

is not for directing charge current.

OK for directing "loads fed from" which bank.

Re: Battery Switches.

Hardwire alt output - and all other significant charge sources - to House directly. That is the one that needs 99% of your care.

Put an ACR / VSR between House and Starter, even a little Echo...
