Yes following best practices wire alternator, all significant inputs, direct to House charge Starter via automated combiner / ACR / VSR etc and only use these bank switches to direct load... |

AFD is not something an alternator has or doesn't have. The questions are 1. is the alt designed to work with an external regulator? or if not, 2. can an alternator shop modify its wiring |

Some alternators are not "AFD ready" without modification, similar to that needed for using an external VR |

That BSS ML series ACR is fine for decades of RTW cruising, 100% bulletproof, just don't fail, will outlast the hull, your great grandkids will inherit it. |

These are not easy to wire correctly even for pro's. Maybe the BSS docs match that cheap switch, maybe not. |

Likely a feature to cut field power to the alt to try to prevent blowing alt diodes. Better to find the documentation for that switch. Or best of all, spend the extra on Blue Sea. |

Hardwire alt output - and all other significant charge sources - to House directly. That is the one that needs 99% of your care. Put an ACR / VSR between House and Starter, even a little Echo... |
