Re: Ice as a battery

Commercial and consumer units designed like this are readily available, Uline is a well-respected vendor for reliability, but their products aren't cheap.

Most people need battery storage for...

Re: Ice as a battery

Wealthy and large communities are mostly fine. Poorer and small ones not so much.

Monitoring and reporting is woefully inadequate for over 25% of the population in violation of federal law.

Re: Ice as a battery

More like "delays running without a charge source".

Maintaining temps is still top priority.

Ideally an external "batteries now close enough to Full" signal could be the trigger,

as for...

Re: Ice as a battery

75% of my adult life has been spent in such places, even in cities with many millions.

Globally speaking, drinking water on tap is exceptional not the norm.

Most people on the planet need to...

Re: Ice as a battery

No matter what setpoint, voltage does not show bank state of charge.

Ensuring the bank gets to true 100% Full is the priority, and that can easily takes 4+ hours after V has reached Absorb...

Re: Ice as a battery

Frater Secessus, member in cheapRV forum has a howto posted, I'll try to find it.

Otherwise can be done via custom Arduino project, built into some controllers (wind I think) or of course easiest...

Re: Ice as a battery

Yes making water is an alternative "load dump" for excess power.

So is heating water, running dehumidifiers or cooking with a crock pot.

I know guys run aircon off solar too, only after the...

Re: Ice as a battery

No I meant the fluid in bulk.

2" tubes can hold a pretty large volume, part of the physics of staying frozen longer, dozens of little boxes would not be as effective.

My idea is to fasten...

Re: Ice as a battery

That is the scenario where eutectics of any sort really make sense.

The polar tubes idea is a poor man's **substitute** for a proper holding plate fridge setup, anyone who can afford the latter...

Re: Ice as a battery

Polar tubes are usually cheap PVC pipes maybe 2"D, cut to fit the shortest box, with glued endcaps.

Used like the blue freezer packs, cycle between a supercooler and freezer, as you say just...

Re: Ice as a battery

Google "polar tubes"

Seawater makes a decent eutectic solution, would like to know if adding more salt will usefully raise the phase change temp.

Or is there a source for engineered solutions...
