Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising ?
Don't know about a Hazel. When I called them on the VHF, it was a guy who answered. |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
Evidently it was enough to circumnavigate. I recently sailed by a ketch rigged Oceanic 30' and she looked to be in terrific shape. |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
I found this as well. Iroquois/Sailcraft Owners Resource Page (https://www.iroquoiscats.com/advice.html) These are the boats that gave catamarans the stigma they carry to this day, as they did... |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
The Catalac 8M has twice the cockpit of the 9M and twice the engine room. Both boats have the same hulls, the 9M has a larger and better cabin layout, while the 8M has a larger cockpit. Richard... |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
My engine rooms are bigger. at 42" x 8 feet, they're about as big as I've seen, short of the monster engine rooms in South African catamarans (St. Francis, Wildcat) which is surprising as my boat is... |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
The Quest is a terrific boat. I'm curious, who do you know that works on the Stillette drive leg? There isn't anyone here in east central Florida. Older British boats aren't fast but were build... |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
???? I couldn't disagree more. First off, not a friend... a guy I know. For clarity I dug out some Mahe photos of mine... Lets make sure we agree with the engine access we're talking about ... |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
Yes, but add hull design to that list. Early production catamarans like mine were subject to the British interpretation of proper hull design. They added considerable amounts of rocker in their hull... |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
Yes I certainly do agree that modern catamaran design dictates the engine be stuck in the back of the boat. Where we differ is in that if you think this has anything to do with better 'engine access'... |

Re: What is the Smallest Multihull You Can Take Blue Water Cruising?
Are they safe? I can find no reports to the contrary. Are they comfortable in a seaway? ...Not very... (hobby horsing) Look at the layout of the Catalac 8M with inboards diesels. The engines are... |

Re: what is the smallest multihull you can take blue water cruising?
You'd be surprised. A Catalac 12M was in the Queen's Birthday Storm disaster. An event where a Catalac 12 meter survived 100 knot + winds and seas approaching 30 meters without dismasting in a storm... |

Re: what is the smallest multihull you can take blue water cruising?
A small boat can not outrun a hurricane. I tried outrunning hurricane Katrina in my Catalac. She caught me. I believe the story is in one of the sailing mags. |

Re: what is the smallest boat you take blue water cruising?
My Catalac 8M has crossed the Atlantic. I think the Catalac 8M or Heavenly Twins 26-27 would be as small as I would go for Blue water. |
