Re: Which outboards for me ?

The gearbox ratio sounds right, one of the taller gearbox ratios of the brands. If your at 5500 with 20's I'm sure I'll need more than 8", I should get 6000 (max for engine) before full throttle with...

Re: Which outboards for me ?

Thanks for the info, I am happy with my choice. Nothing suited 100% but for me I think these will be pretty close.

What sort of RPM at 9+kn's are you doing?

I was hoping for a better top...

Re: Which outboards for me ?

Update.

One engine died. 0psi compression in both cylinders, with a bore-a-scope through the plug holes showed both pistons have gauled in the bores. Also found Salt crystals in the inlet.

Re: Which outboards for me ?

Hi Jim

It's interesting you get 9kn, you might be right, maybe I am over reving. I'm fairly sure it's not under reving.

I do expect to travel so maintenance is an issue.

Regards
Dave

Re: Which outboards for me ?

Thanks

The manufacturers agents agree with you. They don't seem worried about the additional loads on the gearbox and state it will not effect warranty if we go with a non high thrust motor. Most...

Re: Which outboards for me ?

I would prefer to use 4 strokes, I have a 2 stroke on the tender which I'm hoping I can make a deal on and swap it for a 4 stroke while I'm at it.

I did watch a few reviews on them and they...

Re: Which outboards for me ?

I'm starting to waver on the Honda when I read the specs on the Suzuki.

The Suzuki's are about $500 per side cheaper than the Honda and have double overhead cams with 4V/cylinder.

The...

Re: Which outboards for me ?

Through Hull. They slide straight up and down on rails and are on centre line of each hull.
Long shaft not XL
Doesn't cavitate but can draw air crossing bars otherwise they are no issue

Re: Which outboards for me ?

Might have been a special. They are now 5 years. The Honda warranty is 7 years - you have to have them serviced annually by an authorised dealer @ $350-$400.

Re: Which outboards for me ?

I did get a quote and specs from Ocean Volt in the hope that electric would fit but it just doesn't work for me. I agree that they look like the future but I think it's too early.

Re: Which outboards for me ?

I might be wrong but I assumed the 40s were HT but not available now. I spoke to Schionning and they said a number of people are using 30s but don't get much improvement over the 25s - makes sense.
