I had to get a new alternator as the old upgraded one did exactly as you stated. I bought a 105A from MaineSail at matinehowto.com. I also made a new swing arm.

If the stud snapped you you’ll still be able to pull the manifold. You also need to remove the three nuts holding the exhaust to the manifold.
