Recreational vehicles and boats have used the common (easy to buy and cheap) 110/120 v bulb sockets for 12 v bulbs for over 75 years.

Automotive LEDs do care about polarity.

Actually any LED requires the correct polarity DC to function.

The ones that work either way (or on AC) have to have a diode "bridge" or full wave...
