Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
I couldn't resist the $13 price for the meter and bought a second one. It's almost perfectly matches the NIST 87V. They both would swap the final digit back and forth (12.33 and 12.34). |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
Since I hate not knowing, I splurged and bought a Fluke 87V with NIST certificate. I also bought a $19 meter which can be purchased right now for under $13. Notice the extra digit on the 87V. ... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
Anyone make a 50v dc measuring device that is accurate and low cost? I would rather not...but a Fluke 28-II may be my next meter. +/- 0.05% + 1 and IP67 rating. Over $500 with certificate. |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
I copied this from labeled pages 14/15 (PDF page # 18/19). I changed to Bold for what I'm looking at. Specifications Electrical Specifications AC Current Range... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
Great points. I admit I didn't fully research before buying. One of the reasons I paid up for the Fluke is that I thought I didn't need to research so carefully. Are you sure about the 2%? ... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
Why can't we have the MPPT & BMV talk to each other and maintain 0 amps going in and out of the battery? Call it "Steady State". Example: Battery is 'full' as determined by tail current. ... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
You're right. I was being overly dramatic. I'll likely plug in somewhere so I can run the Aircon in the future. Just not where the power is 50hz. I would like a new Victron. I'm kind of... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
This is what started my confusion. This didn't clear it up. I read this as I should have the battery start charging again at 12v but this does not seem to work well in a solar charging... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
Yes Bruce told me "The voltage is a really poor way to tell SOC, as it depends entirely on the load at the time. So you need the properly programmed monitor to track Ah's used to get an SOC while in... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
I think of it more as an quick check to make sure you SOC seems reasonable when they are new. Of course after time things change and you get more time with them and understand them better. ... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
From the Victron 100/30 manual: 1.9.3. Float During this stage, float voltage is applied to the battery to maintain it in a fully charged state. When the battery voltage drops below float voltage... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
I currently have float set at 13.1v. I was trying to have it just high enough to use the sunshine without 'charging' the batteries. I don't know the true resting full voltage of the batteries but... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
The controllers are setup to get temperature from the BMV-712. I compared the 712 readings with the individual controllers by using two iPhones simultaneously and they were always within +/- 0.02v... |

Re: Float voltage for Firefly batteries
I just installed 4 LG Neon 360w 36v panels and 4 Victron Smart 100/30. One panel per controller. I have low 2.1-2.3% voltage drop calculated. Hard to measure. I also installed 3 Firefly L15+ 4v... |
