If you are planning on buying a boat then the trade off in terms of money is size / age of the boat. 26 feet is on the small side. I live on the Great Lakes. Fresh water boats have little corrosion...

Best season summer. May to maybe October reasonable. One person live aboard 34 to 40 plus feet.
