Bjorn, you need to take the capstan off the windlass, then you can lift off the gypsy and turn it over to get access to where you need to place the magnet.

I dont think my capstan had ever been...

Dave, you don't say how long each magnet lasted. I found mine was comprehensively rusted after 12 years but i have no idea how long it had not been working for the previous owner.

I should have added on my post that if you replace the magnet you must then make sure it is well sealed inside the hole. I used araldite and kept the gypsy upside down until the araldite had set...

I have a Lofrans Airon on a 2004 Jeanneau 43ds with up to 80m of 10mm chain and a 20Kg Bruce . I had trouble with the counter and Quick sent me a new magnet and sensor. Luckily i only had to replace...
