Re: Osmosis treatment

I agree with Minaret. That description of a boat just out of production with gelcoat voids is more shocking than an actual hydrolysis problem. This is just not a common manufacturing problem. The...

Re: Osmosis treatment

I have seen many Athenas and Venezias and have never seen one with a blister problem. I think the blister problem started with the Lavezzi model years.

Re: Osmosis treatment

My point was that the water had to pass through solid resin to get to the glass layer.

Actually, most that do blister past the gelcoat are only in the first layer of CSM. This also is nothing...

Re: Osmosis treatment

Resin infusion is also done for lowering emissions, but it is mostly done for strength/weight reasons. Resin rich boats are very weak structures, thus the greater than 1" thick layups one sees in...

Re: Osmosis treatment

No, there is no difference in fiberglass construction between mono and cat in this regards. Both can blister whenever and for various reasons.

Re: Osmosis treatment

Again, from a previous post"

Re: Osmosis treatment

OK, so not to present day. My main point was that the older FP's did not suffer osmosis, while the newer ones did. This was in response to a poster saying the older FP boats suffered osmosis, which...

Re: Osmosis treatment

While this statement is relatively somewhat true, boatyards are littered with blistered FP's and not blistered Lagoons. Even 10yr old Lagoons.

So your statement is a deflection - FP have...

Re: Osmosis treatment

I won't argue the quality of the layup, but your assertion that they use chopper gun layups is wrong. They do not - they use full sheet fabrics with vacuum resin infusion. Do you have any actual...
