Unlike most production cats they aren't fat.

Outremers don't change the point - they would be lighter if they used a cored laminate.

Puncture resistance is a non-technical term, so not sure what you mean there. It's true that metal handles abrasion better than FRP, which makes it more suitable for ice.

No matter what the boat is made of, it'll be built to a certain strength.

The difference in material is, in a nutshell, the difference in weight required to reach that strength, and the cost.
