I think the original engine was a Perkins, she had the 55b installed a few years before I got her. Good question though, if it had been a gas engine that would have explained the small diameter...

If my 3" ID hose is 15' long, then that's a volume of 1272 cubic inches.

Yeah - something along those lines. Unfortunately that hose is not full of water, its a witches brew of exhaust and water. I don't understand it enough to know whether or not there is a linear...

Hmm, looking at Defender's waterlift mufflers, I'm inclined to agree with you. They list max HP ratings for each muffler, for both Gas and Diesel, and the one for 60HP Diesels has 3" inlets/outlets....
