Pavel you are a genius: turning on what you suggested fixed everything

If you are not using OpenGL accelerated graphics (Toolbox->Display->Advanced), turn it on

The open GL graphics turn on fixed it.

I did all that and charts come up and gps works fine: However the software really is badly misbehaving.

I run it side by side with my old laptop running on win 7 with older version of open...

Travelling in the pacific northwest and was using a 4.1.1 version with canadian charts and displaying charts properly but app kept crashing and not responding to zoom control.
