Maybe a Prindle 16 could beat a standard Hobie 14, but the handicap yardsticks tell a different story

Have sailed and raced all kinds of Hobies, 14,16,18, F18, Wave, Getaway. For what you want to do with family, picnics etc, IMHO one of the rotor-molded ones would be a better fit (Getaway or Wave)....
