That's an idea and one I will look into. As w have to meet the stupid EU RCD regulations noise from the induction side is not likely to be an issue as we have a damn noisy 4in blower fan in...

You are probably correct and I may well contact them to "pick their brains". Thing is I don't object to a throw away paper element, hell most cars have this kind of filter and they do a fine...

Guy, having had a K&N in one of my old cars I had thought about that option but doubt they would have a filter compatible with a 40hp diesel given they are generally geared toward performance petrol...

Just wanted to pick the community brain regarding the insane design of the Volvo Penta Air Filter which means you have to discard the entire filter unit rather than just changing the air filter...
