I'd say forward...

It's worth a try, using Wings proposed method, to drive the stud out, but if it doesn't move with a couple solid blows you're probably wasting your time. Sometimes studs rust...

The studs only rarely lock in the head; it is much more common for them to rust into the manifold.

If you're sure that the lower three studs are free, it is worth an attempt to remove them with...

If memory serves, there're no locating dowels for the manifold. If you can tell that all other studs are free from the manifold, then attempt to remove them. Chances are very good that all will...
