Try the soapy water first. If not satisfied, try a mild acid as mentioned upthread. Oh... you don't say what material the rigging screws are made of. If bronze, perhaps some Brasso or equivalent...

Most hardware stores sell oxalic acid crystals, usually labeled as wood bleach or concrete cleaner, etc. When purchased this way it is VERY inexpensive. Mix up a couple of ounces of the powder in a...
