Re: Budget Be Damned

No but if you believe the market is cyclical, then you don’t spend the money you make in good times, you ferret it away, cause your going to need it to get through the bad times.
You seem to not...

Re: Budget Be Damned

You I assume are of the opinion that the current situation will continue, that good times are the norm.
People thought that in the 20’s too. Of course internet stocks were always going to increase...

Re: Budget Be Dam

I understand that, and it’s why I didn’t plan on ever getting SS in my planning, will I? I certainly hope so, but I can live without it, I’m doing so now in fact. But no SS and no Military pension...

Re: Budget Be Dam

I’d say that depends, and what it depends on is your ability to find some kind of work. Oftentimes those places you speak of have no use for a foreigner, especially one trying to find work.

Even...

Re: Budget Be Damned

Actually I believe if you look back historically, a good place to have money in stocks if it hits the fan is the liquor and beer industry it seems in hard times people find the money to drink.

Re: Budget Be Dam

Sure, but if your life’s savings were to evaporate, it’s going to be tough, because I don’t care who you are, you need to buy things.

My plan and I hope it’s sound is to have only about half of my...

Re: Budget Be Damned

Being a total non expert when it comes to money, my personal belief is that no one really knows what is going to happen because there is simply no historical precedent, it’s never run this long...

It’s really not, or at least not anymore, the US and I’d suppose the world has very many second and maybe even third generation very wealthy people, who actually do nothing at all, but apparently...

How about instead of spending those earnings cash them out and have cash to ride out the downturn?
I have two years of cash, I believe I’m getting 3% or so from it too, so it’s not a total loss, but...

If your getting 8%...

That is my thought as well. And to explain why it’s possible for me to not, is I can imagine if things get bad that the feds won’t pay Military Retirement and SS, even though of course the whole time...

Re: Budget Be Damned

It certainly doesn’t “bug” me, in fact I was giving you some credit believe it or not, having SS as a safety net makes risky decisions, less risky.

Re: Budget Be Damned

No, I don’t think it is, however I hope that when and or if the market takes a down turn, you will be able to ride it out and not have to sell off at the bottom by having your SS.
I have seven years...

The question is of course do you have enough to maintain your standard of living during the low?
We would all like it if the market stayed high....
