There is, I have seen one, but don’t remember the specifics, it apparently triggers an alarm at no water flow, I don’t think it’s temp, I think it’s flow. A quick google found this, and several... |

I think the advice of make sure the O ring isn’t pinched etc on the cover plate is likely a very good one. Pump really should prime itself unless there is an air leak. |

You almost certainly have not hurt your engine, but your exhaust may need inspecting. Next time, be sure you have water coming out of your exhaust before doing anything else, it should be coming... |
