Yes it can be overkill! More weight and cost than required. For ocean sailing I calculate rigging based on about 5% of rated tensile strength as a max wind load based on the righting moment of the... |

Just to be clear when people talk about 'the good stuff' I am assuming they mean hot dipped. much thicker and more durable. On any gaff rig or wooden mast I would definitely go for it, on a modern... |
