Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

The front panel of my Solar Boost 2000e also gets quite hot when it's putting out similar current. I just assumed that there was no way to convert that much power without generating a bit of heat or...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Wow! I had no idea!

Well, as bad as it sounds, it fills a niche for people like me who just want something cheap that works. I'm not a patent attorney, I'm a consumer. My only complaint with hte...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Yes it is a shame, but this is a trailer I rent out to others for weekend use and the fridge is normally run off of propane, so the battery bank and solar panels are overkill and don't really get...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

I believe this is it. It doesn't actually "recommend" 300w, it says max panel output 300w for 12v panels, 600w for 24v panels, max controller output 20A.

Manual for 20A MPPT - eco-worthy solar...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Very nice!

It's indicating 15.8v from the panels, what is the advertised Vmp?

According to the display, 309.68 watts coming in, 308 watts going out. You're getting an indicated 22A from 330w...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

I have meters I can use to measure voltage and current, I'll check and see just how far off these MPPT controllers are. One is a Blue Sky SB2000e and the other is a cheap $100 Chinese controller. It...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

At the moment, I'm not near my solar arrays, they are each on top of an RV. However, on a nice sunny day, I'll take pics of the solar panel temps from my IR thermometer, then pics of the inout and...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

It sounds like the solution to this problem is to use 24v panels for a 12v battery system, or 35 or 40v panels for a 24v battery system. This way the effect is negligible, or non-existent.

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Just so I understand, are you saying that a system with a PWM controller will put out more power than an MPPT system when the solar panel cell temp. rises above (and Vmp drops below) a certain point?...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

I understand that you guys are stating that Vpm will decrease at a known rate as cell temp increases, but I think you're overstating the effect in the real world, especially in a marine environment...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Great idea!

You take 2 panels, connect them to the PWM controller of your choice.

Take 2 identical panels, mount them right next to the other 2, and connect them to an MPPT controller. Use...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Maybe I'm oversimplifying, or missing something here, but here's my understanding. Space for solar panels is very limited onboard, so boaters are buying very expensive panels for the extra efficiency...
