Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

I didn't mean to imply anything else. My wording was poor in that it didn't imply that he did that simply because it was just the right thing to do.

I meant "move" in the sense that he took the...

Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

Interesting. I guess that wasn't one of the options available?

Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

It's pretty clear that Eric made the choice without any pressure from the rescuers, and that there wasn't any doubt or hesitation in his mind as to what he was going to do.

One thing is for sure,...

Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

Welcome back, Rebel Heart!

Looking forward to hearing the real facts. Good move to wait for the 15 minute thing to die down.

Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

The honest blogs are the only ones worth reading. If they're too edited, they turn into "look at me, living the great life" plastic blogs. Who cares if people don't agree with you? This isn't a...

Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

:thumb::thumb::thumb:

The incident itself does raise a lot of issues worthy of discussion on this forum. Some of them controversial, and worthy of honest debate. Some of these ideas might be...

Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

I think donating to their fund is the right thing to do, but choosing their next boat is a little overboard.

Let them get back home and recovered a bit.

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

Seems to me they just rescued one of our friends, so you might want to be a little bit kinder when you speak of them, at least today. :)

They didn't sink the boat for their convenience. They...

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

I'll be interested in hearing what happened as well, but I don't even need to hear that to know that he did the right thing under the circumstances.

Family is way more important than boat, and I...

Why are you reading this, and why are you bringing it here? I'm failing to see what it adds.

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

You should have just left it at that.

Any decisions being made, or not made, are up to those directly involved, and who actually have all the information.

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

I completely agree. I'm sure Erick has his priorities, they're all about family about now.

As for the negative comments anywhere, who cares? If they really bug you, simply stop reading them. ...

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

I didn't say it was bad. I said it was there. Didn't mean to start a political discussion.

NPR is probably about as neutral as you're going to get in their news. It's just the opinion pieces...

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

NPR News is pretty good, but their interviews/opinion bits have a most definite liberal slant. At least they seem to try a it, though.

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

Replace "Fox and CNN" with "All journalism" and you'll be far more accurate.

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

I wasn't going to read the comments on the Daily Mail because I suspected what I might find there, but there was so much focus on it from here that I couldn't resist.

Here's a caution I'd just...

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

I read the article, but not the comments. The article really didn't seem that bad, or even inaccurate. I thought it cast them in a positive light.

People do make incorrect assumptions and rude...

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

I just don't like to see comments mischaracterized. Really.

But sorry for going so off-topic on what really is a trivial matter.

The important thing is the safety of a fellow cruiser and his...

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

Let's just say I disagree that everyone in the military is off playing video games waiting for someone to need a rescue. Saying that people are on fixed salaries, so it doesn't matter what they do...

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

Yea, I think the news exaggerates, but missions (and these rescues) do have a cost.

I wonder what it cost to get Bin Laden?

A lot, but it was worth it.

Re: Forum Member's boat and daughter in trouble off of Mexico

I disagree. Rescue missions DO cost something. This takes rescue and medical personnel out of whatever other else they were doing. It's easy to think the military is just sitting on their...
