Great idea! Ive used the tail of a halyard as a downhaul, but that has its own issues. A small line in a loop could work well. |

Downhauls can be useful, but there is always the remote possibility of it tangling aloft somewhere and stopping the main from dropping. The best way to run them is to use a series of bullseyes or... |
