Re: Fishy anchoring situation

Busted him. Called the police.

Guy came, was untying my knots from the dock that were suspending me, got busted by a friendly old salt in another slip at the dock, took pictures of my boat and...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

I wont bother quoting for the sake of brevity, but I will respond to the above.

10 year old with a sling shot. Yes. I'll take him he can stay on my boat whenever I anchor there, lol.

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

I used this technique first time I anchored there. It is an excellent anchoring technique for fighting the wind, but long term, the two anchors end up fouling if the wind changes or in low wind...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

I've anchored there (obviously) for both single nights as well as multi-day stays. The tides will swing you, but at night the winds die off as you correctly note. The tides are not severe (it's no...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

The pattern. 9 days solid holding even with fouled anchor, then 4 days solid holding without fouled anchor and dragging. Then 3 days solid holding and leave the boat and fouled anchor the moment I...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

I've contemplated just hiding out on the boat and having the harbour ferry show up and appear like I'm getting picked up. Seemingly the anchor was fouled the next morning after that when at anchor....

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

I honestly dont give a rats a** about the legality of the rabbit trail. Its the principle. This trail is used by residents mostly so their kids can play with eachother and they can visit eachothers...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

Water leases here are really hard to get, NIMBY rich people with waterfront property want to buy condos with private moorage attached to the house so it's hard to get and hard for marinas to expand....

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

While I would not rather bore you with the munitae, I will explain and keep it brief. This rabbit trail is actually listed on Google Maps as a road. Not that you could even ride a bicycle down it. ...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

Thats because I moved the boat away from that place and tied up to a dock while I sit on the wait list.

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

On the dual anchor comment, yes, I tried a stern and bow anchor the first time and the stern anchor was useless and merely fouled around the main anchor. The main anchor held despite this, and I...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

Im thinking that this sort of thing happens frequently and the park operator specifically mentioned liability if he touches the rode, and doesn't want to be the last known person who touched the rode...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

All I can say is... wow. A 47 pound anchor holding a 91 metric ton boat in seas too rough for that size of boat is pretty impressive.

I have found the same problem too. The thing sets like a...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

I had a friendly fellow move the boat to his private buoy, bless his soul, so I didn't blow a day and a half and over a hundred bucks just to reset the anchor.. again... and again. It's not a...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

Totally. Towing a 7 ton sailboat across the Straight of Georgia simply because it was too close to a park buoy seems like trying to kill a mouse with ten sticks of dynamite.

If it was dragging...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

This is what I'm thinking. After setting the hook (properly) full bore in reverse, letting out a lot of scope (up to 7:1), with no considerable winds and no swells as it's a coastal area, spending...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

I'm not saying he owes me anything. If he says I'm too close to a park buoy and the only alternative is to spend 4+ hours and miss a day or two of work due to ferry schedules, or have them tow the...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

Oh and to underscore one of my points about this weirdness that may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Being threatened with having my boat towed 100Kms all the way to Victoria comes across to me...

Re: Fishy anchoring situation

Hmm. I do understand that these swings are a limitation of a Danforth. It is for this reason that I wouldn't leave the boat at anchor unless I had it there for a good three tides.

I do find it a...

Fishy anchoring situation

I think someone is screwing with my anchor. I am anchored near a park and there are a bunch of million dollar vacation homes around. I've had a few weird situations come about while I sit at anchor...
