Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

If we all liked the same boat, there would only be one boat company. No fun in that. Frankly, aside from the Gunboat and the Atlantic cats, I like the lines of a Hinkley (sp?). Maybe because the...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Well I have a seawind 1000, and I'm OK with the looks. [emoji6] But we were also moored behind a really nice Gunboat 62 in the Bahamas last year that I thought was sexy as hell. And an Atlantic 57,...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

20-25% higher. Pretty minor, especially in comparison to the higher purchase price of the cat.

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

The long term marinas we stay at charge for actual electricity use. So use less, pay less. At some we've stayed at in transit, it's a flat rate per day. If we don't plan to run the air...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

A bit confused where you are, because your info says Kemah, Texas. And I had my boat at Waterford Harbor Marina there for years, on a T-head, same price as monohulls. Most monohulls did not want to...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Your reasoning is based on your logic, and no experience? Again, my experience with actually owning a cat - and staying in marinas from South Texas thru Florida and thru the Bahamas - is that boats...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Our personal best, 23 knots. Racing our Corsair 28R, four-person crew (including my wife, who was steering/tiller), downwind under asymmetric spinnaker, probably 28 knots wind, spray flying...

And price list identical for monohull.

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

I'll say it again. Need to reference what country when you talk about marina pricing policy. Ralph, I have been in marinas all the way from Texas and thru Exumas to Georgetown. We have NEVER paid...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Some people suggest a really large battery cable clamped to the mast, other end clamped to a plate in the water. But no evidence this is effective.

We tend to try to avoid the storms, or if not...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Sheet it in hard. Pitch pole. Mast pointed toward the bottom. Minimal risk of lightening strike! Lightening bolt hits the monohull instead.

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

This is huge to me as well. Go down the companionway steps of a monohull, sit down, and what do you see? Walls. We sit down in the salon of our cat, and we see out 360 deg of water view. Yeah,...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

One of the Gunboats. Or an Atlantic cat (Chris White). If you have to put some reality back into it, I have been very happy with my Seawind, and would probably just buy a bigger model, with boards....

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Not sure what country you are located, or if you have any experience with a catamaran or associated costs, or are just making up this 1.5x figure. In my real life ownership experience in the US,...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

You know, several people have posted about the higher expense of having a cat in a marina, vs a monohull. I've stayed as long term or transient in marinas all the way from Texas thru Florida and...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

So the Vagabonde couple decide they want to trade in their big monohull for a catamaran, and provide their reasoning. In return, numerous monohull-owners feel the need to post why the couple are...

No, if its keel had fallen off, you'd need an underwater camera to take that picture. :whistling:

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Yeah, I know it's not what you meant, but I used to race a trimaran, and when the center hull was skimming the water and exposing the dagger board, you knew you were making great speed. But also...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

Yeah, in that situation I would prefer to be in my land house. That said, I've done some Gulf of Mexico racing, all in multihulls. And in only one instance of racing, seen a loss of life. It was...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

For those of you that say they only chose the cat because Outremer gave them a sweet deal, as successful as their videos are, don't you think there were a bunch of mono boatbuilders offering similar...
