I sent San Diego County a copy of my TIP into Mexico and a letter from Chula Vista Marina. They are cancelling the tax bill.

A pleasant surprise.

I’m not moving to California. I’m transiting CA. I don’t owe them a dime.

The California law if you read it is for people permanently mooring their boat in California using the services provided...

I had a good conversation with the marine assessor in San Diego County. I’m forwarding my TIP and letter from the marina I stayed at. She said she’d be able to cancel the bill.

The bill is for July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. I left January 26, 2018.

How much do you think they reduce it? Will they bill me going forward?

This is very helpful. There is a proviso for temporary vs permanent situ. I think I can provide documentation our stay in California was temporary.

It’s a documented boat outside of California. The previous 20 something years moored In Washington State.

The trip down the coast part of the retirement tour. There was never any intent to...

California tax on transiting boat

Curious if anyone has dealt with this before. We left Seattle after retirement via our boat to Alaska. Late that summer we worked our way down the coast.

We decided to leave the boat in Chula...
