Don't get me wrong - I have a chartplotter and use it. I think plotters are wonderful and opened up sailing to many that would not have done so if faced with paper charts, dividers, pencils...

Yes I am, Although if you prefer we could say the boat was then sailed 100 meters ot one side and a new track begun.

I confess - I'm a nerd (and hopelessly old). My charts are updated every time the "Notices to Mariners" comes out. But I do realize I'm one of very very few.

yep, and if you really study the chart history - you'll find lots where although they are "adeuately surveyed" - they were surveyed with a casting lead and a row boat at 100 meter intervals.

Why do you say this? Paper charts are NOT more inaccurate than electronic charts. Virtually all electronic charts used on chartplotters are simply digitalized versions of paper.
