Re: Successor to ActiveCaptain?
If they sent abusive emails to me and my wife… hell yes I would. And so would you. |

Re: Successor to ActiveCaptain?
I will touch on a couple of things. First is that I enjoyed AC and used it a lot around 2012 or so. I posted quite a few things and earned some free navigation software for my efforts. However, as... |

Re: Southport Marina..
I am conflicted to whether we want to return there. We absolutely love visiting Southport and the marina was a great place to stay. However, after the way they filed lawsuits and demanded tenants... |

Re: Mateo to Ocracoke via Old House Channel
It isn't hard to get thru. The channel is pretty well marked because it is used by the fishing fleet out of Wanchese, however, it moves around a lot. They do a good job of keeping the markers... |

Re: North Carolina liveaboard Marinas
People that are recommending Northwest Creek have to know that the wi-fi there (still) sucks. It works... but barely and rarely. |

Re: 1982 Trojan 36' Tri-Cabin Woes...
I'd start by getting a diver to look at the underwater running gear for something obvious like a bent prop. Did your survey not check the prop and shaft for runout? Anyway, you probably need to... |

Re: Should I turn these OFF or leave them ON?
We have an AC/DC fridge, so I will leave the AC on and cut the DC. If we lose power, we may have a little mold and warm mayonnaise, but it won't tank the batteries. The Air conditioning is... |

Re: Best Sailing channels on Youtube
That is a very good point. 'Sailing Doodles' is another big offender in this category. I get that is leads to multiple times an increase of viewers, but is really kind of underhanded and... |

Re: Best Sailing channels on Youtube
Here is another question... Why are there no powerboat V-Blogs? I haven't found any. Even trawler V-Blogs are sparse. I have seen, maaaaayyyybeee, two? I would really like to see the same sort of... |

Re: Best Sailing channels on Youtube
I was a little surprised by that too, but then I was even MORE surprised at how FEW of them are making anything that could be considered good money. Basically about five... out of how many different... |

Re: A week in jamaica
My wife and I have been going to Jamaica for 25 years and actually HAVE boated while there. We have a friend with a boat in MoBay. Without painting with too large of a brush, people in Jamaica with... |

Re: Trawler - Single Engine vs Twins
It isn't such the chore that some would have you believe. You will get used to maneuvering a single soon enough. With or without a thruster. One other point to note. In the world of "smaller"... |

Re: Cruiser vs. Trawler - how to decide?
No. Not even close. A 24" prop digging into the water can always out thrust a 15k wind. Maybe if you also had a 5k current, but to stop even a low powered trawler, you would need a lot more wind than... |

Re: Inverter-Only Options
Thanks! Victron units tend to be pricey, but I will take a look. As for the rest, I will consider it. Maybe I could invest in a good inverter/charger, but with the DC upgrade just done, it is hard to... |

Inverter-Only Options
Over the past winter, I revamped the DC system on our Navigator 4200 to 8 GC2 golfcart batteries and a Sterling charger. While we have a nice (and pretty quiet) 9KW genset, I still want to install a... |

Re: Cruiser vs. Trawler - how to decide?
That is a very good point. We looked at them too. Unfortunately, they are also very expensive and take wider (more expensive) slips to keep them in. |

Re: Cruiser vs. Trawler - how to decide?
How to decide is based on two real factors... Time and Money We went from trawler to motoryacht last year. The trawler was awesome as a first boat. Slow and cheap on fuel (1.75 GPH over the 5... |

Re: 1982 Viking 44' Motor Yacht
Things like that are unlikely to exist. Boats don't really come with what you might consider an proper owner's manual. Why? I am not exactly sure. I suspect that lot's of them were optioned such a... |

Re: Navigator 45 delivery Lake Union to Vancouver, WA
Do you know what year model it is? We just bought a 42', but this one looks a bit newer than our 2001. |

Before you listen to either of us, call the guys at Vosbury Marine. They know Volvo's far more than anyone on this forum: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vosbury-Marine-Recreation/134444083273766 |
