If the tolerances are similar , then the prop will still have some play...
In my case the burrs from the machining were enuff to reduce any play to zero...
As I said , I'm not convinced yet, but...

Prop with a bigger pitch almost makes sense - but yesterday I had an epiphany...
My original prop busted , and I had it pinned - the job wasn't neat and left...

Thanks for reply Ted , the noise is more of a whine than anything else IMO
It's apparent on my 2 stroke 9.8 and the 4 stroke 8hp...

Thanks Jim , yes the little red light comes on normally...
Without more info from this knowledgeable group , I'm not going to strip the motor. I don't have a workshop and doing it as a liveaboard is...

Havnt strained the oil , but the noise appears to not come from the lower end...
Bear in mind this is a fault that is not unique - it's a well-known complaint.

Both my 8hp 4 stroke and my 9.8 2 stroke have a transmission whine when above idling speed that becomes inaudible at higher revs...
My local outboard mechanic says it a common problem...

Both are not the easiest starters...
It takes a particular combination of no choke/choke/throttle to be reliable , which I've now got ✅
But it still gives me a spot...

Thanks , yes , the forward hatch is open with the dinghy over it to stop rain. But heavy rain with wind introduces moisture as a fine spray...

Yes , I'm looking at that , but I'm not sure if the local Genus of termite is susceptible to that product , my research has found several different species of fungi that work , and now I'm not sure...

The engine needs work , and the rigging needs replacing , plus the sails are old...
