Re: advice on tall winch handle

I’m surprised that none of the replies you’ve received give any real help. There are some makes of winch handles that are more cranked up than the standard flat bar with handle type. We did start...

Re: Need mooring buoy tips

Forgive me if I’m not getting the right impression of your mooring arrangement of others have already told you this:
If you simply run a warp from the cleat on one side of the bow through the ring...

G70 chain vs G4

Sorry I haven’t read all the replies as I’m on a poor connection.

I’m replying because I have a similar combination to what you are proposing: Lofrans Cayman windlass* with a 8mm/5/16 gypsy, 80m...

Re: towing a large Dinghy - or not?

I appreciate that this thread is about a Large Dinghy but most of the replies are adamant about not towing any dinghy. I disagree. We tow our 9 foot dinghy pretty much everywhere (behind a 40 foot...

Re: Throttle tension adjustment?

Just had a response from Lewmar tech support:

Hello Keith,

No it is not required. It is there for some engines so it know if it is in gear or not but rarely used so no need to worry about...

I wonder if someone could help me further with this throttle control.

Whilst the binnacle is Whitlock, as is the leaflet shown, the mechanism is branded as Lewmar. I’ve had it...

Re: Throttle tension adjustment?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I hadn’t known whether the adjustment was at the lever or at the engine. Once I knew it was the lever I was able to find this diagram:

Throttle tension adjustment?

We are on a Moody 44 powered by a Volvo MD22 engine with a Morse style single lever throttle forward/reverse lever (with push button neutral).

The engine vibration (although not excessive) seems ...

Re: Where can I find new terminals for this cable?

If the OP wasn’t too busy trying to be smart he might listen to the advice being given. No one is trying to teach you how the internet works, merely to say that even having a complete new cable made...

Re: Docking lines, 3-strand vs braided

3 strand good for strength, cost effectiveness, wear resistance, stretch etc etc BUT do bear in mind that they can be noisy. Octoplait is good for use whilst you are on board.

We don’t worry about...

Re: Raw pump leaking on Perkins 4.108

I’d replace the whole pump but keep the original so that you can perhaps refurbish it. Not a difficult job but you’ll need a decent press for those bearings.

Re: Use Start or House Battery to run Windlass?

Here’s another thought. We have sets of batteries: the usual engine start plus domestic bank and also a bow battery (for bow thruster and windlass). This works in keeping Cable size/volt drop down...

Re: Setting up a new VictronConnect MPPT 75/15

Advice from Multicell was Bulk 14.8V, Float 13.8V. After a follow up call with the Multicell guy that responded to my query I’ve updated the Absorption Voltage to 14.8V. He basically said 14.4V ok...

Setting up a new VictronConnect MPPT 75/15

Seeing other posts on the forum often just lets me know how little I know about a topic. In this case setting up a solar controller.

A couple of months ago I added a 160W solar panel to our boat....
