Re: Classic Boats?
Chartered a Baba 30 once, really liked the boat. Full keel if you get the sails set right she just rides a rail no matter what's going on (gusts, swells). Certainly not huge though (canoe stern so... |

Re: Removing bottom paint and saving my marriage
Buddy who had to deal with a lot of blisters "peeled" his boat below the water line, the tool he used (he called it a peeler) was a lot like a portable planer, set the depth and it cuts (not abrades... |

Re: What off-the-shelf refrigerator are you using?
ARB or Engel, I own one of each and they're awesome. Not the fastest / most powerful (i.e. a case of hot beer does not become cold in 2 hours like a domestic fridge) but very power friendly. You... |

Re: unsuccessfully went through the boat buying process!
I'd piggyback on this idea with this book: https://www.amazon.com/Inspecting-Sailboat-International-Marine-Library/dp/0071445455 Inspecting the Aging Sailboat by Don Casey Gives you a decent... |

Re: Can anyone tell me what the damage at this rudder/keel joint is?
If you remove the rudder shoe check it's condition carefully. I had one (different boat) that we broke in half by hand (after having a new one cast using the old as a template), it was much more... |

Re: ysb8, its drives me crazy!!
I can't help with the OP's particular issue, but I humbly submit that the sort of comment here is the best of CF and honestly the internet... freely offered very specific comment, on topic. ... |

Re: Researching electric motor for Walker Bay dinghy
Definitely following this post. Our Gulf 32 came with a Walker Bay 285 which I didnt know a lot about and therefore wasn't super impressed with but have been really happy with it since, it rows quite... |

Re: Help from strangers while docking? A poll and my rambling musings.
I always took warping to mean moving the boat without the engine, and what you're describing as "springing" where you're using the engine against a cleated line... am I getting this wrong? |

Re: Help from strangers while docking? A poll and my rambling musings.
I'll add another nuance which is open docks or docks that require a code / key to access... if it's a dock the general public can walk I'm even more leary of accepting help, if it's my home dock that... |

Re: Help from strangers while docking? A poll and my rambling musings.
I wish more boaters were taught this bit, i.e. how to act on the dock when offering to help someone else. If I'm on the dock I'll check on anyone coming in near me (easy docking conditions or... |

Re: Need logisitic advice help in buying a boat

Re: Hiking in the BVI's
Not a real "hike" (IMO it's a pretty warm location to be doing serious hiking, prefer life on the water with a breeze) but Sandy Cay is a very pleasant round-the-island walk. |

Re: Anchoring in Eelgrass protection areas - PNW
Pacific Northwest = zero visibility in over ~5' of water most of the time, so you can't visually tell you're in eelgrass areas. -- Bass |

Re: What hp to re-power a 38ft sailboat?
16000# full keeler with pilothouse (windage) does fine with 32hp, even in chop and headwind (the heavier boats will carry their speed a little better in chop) but I can't really envision going... |

Re: Survey with no sea trial, surveyor on Long Island, NY

Re: Survey with no sea trial, surveyor on Long Island, NY
Stating the obvious but aside from this boats specific condition (i.e. survey) do you know this is the model you want? We bought our Gulf 33 without sailing it because we'd sailed a previous one we... |
