Re: BEST POWER BOAT FOR THE THORNY PATH

I'm not trying to slight power boating at all. I think it's true no matter what the vessel is - if it's under 50 feet. IMO, being at sea takes much more physical stabilizing effort for just...

Re: BEST POWER BOAT FOR THE THORNY PATH

One thing to consider - is that a long multi-day passage on any of these boats is likely going to be more like being stuck in a washing machine, than being on a luxury cruise. Open ocean travel...

Re: What dog breed if any???

Boston Terriers would be a good boat dog I think. Small, and they don't have the high exercise needs of a larger dog. Good companions, fair watchdogs.

Re: Much much am I being ripped off?

I always feel like I'm getting ripped off... Best thing, IMO, is as stated - get everything in writing in advance, and ask as many questions as necessary to pin down what's going to effect those...

Re: Mac 65 moving from Solomon Islands MD to Florida

"Solomons Island" (singular) - is a port about half-way (100 miles) up the Chesapeake Bay from it's mouth at the Atlantic.

It is, no doubt, a confusing name for anyone outside the area...

Re: 1984 Catalina 27 with Trailer $12,900

It is a nice looking boat. Are you sure you want to sell? Things change, and you really might wind up wishing you hadn't down the road.

It's a great boat for a lot of different areas, and with...

Re: Seeking Non-platonic Female Crew for Inside/Outside ICW Southbound Trip

I'm a guy - but we'd get along great. The non-platonic part's a deal-breaker for me though.

I'd put profiles on the various dating sites - add some current and fun looking photos, and keep your...

Re: Fabrics and micro plastics

I'd love to find a solution to this issue too. Microplastics' pervasive contamination of the environment is major issue, IMHO. Of course, every generation chooses to wear blinders, and kick the can...

Re: Leopard 50 burns and sinks

I'll say one thing I've learned for sure - fiberglass burns, big-time. That smoke is hard to deal with - thankfully, it didn't happen on a passage. Makes me very cautious of fire hazards, and...

Re: Best Time to Beat Up West Coast (California)?

That's really saying something - when the best route might be via Hawaii. Nice side-trip though.

Re: Montgomery 17 keel problem

On second thought, could you just remove the rest of the keel fiberglass, and paint the metal keel with a few coats of a coal tar epoxy, or some other surface epoxy? Might be easier.

Re: Montgomery 17 keel problem

I'm betting a lot of epoxy and fiberglass cloth can fix almost anything. Big issue might be stopping the rust under the fiberglass - before repairing. If you're not making ocean passages in her,...

Re: La Vagabonde - I don't understand

That inane "stream of consciousness" rambling, and inner angst thing is real popular now-a-days. Extra points if it's nighttime, and the YT sailor's face is illuminated by a chartplotter while...

Re: Buy another home to buy a boat?

That's some damn good advice, IMO. There's always 2 realities... the money reality, and the real reality. The future is never guaranteed.

Earn as much money as can finance a modest version of...

Re: Wheel pulls to port—why??

I'm thinking it's due to prop wash when motoring. If it happens under sail, it may be an imbalance in the sail trim. Good luck, and have fun with your new boat.

Re: Footwear... what are people wearing?

Watch out wearing crocs on a wet boat. I've had a couple of occasions where the crocs were wet inside - and my heel slipped & twisted out when walking on an uneven surface. Luckily, I avoided...

Re: More scope in shallows, less in deep water

I may be wrong, but I believe the catenary effect increases - as the length of the rode increases. Essentially - the sag in the rode increases with the length of the rode, and causes a lower angle...

Re: Smallest size "luxury" yacht

My Catalina 22 is a luxury yacht, as far as I know. Under no circumstances would I need to paddle with my hands, so that major step-up in convenience does it for me. I'm also happy that I'm so...

Re: Safe to store gas tank in isolated cockpit bench locker?

I believe that's what that particular locker was intended for. I have a different boat, C22, and it has the same fuel locker design.

Re: Tweed Heads, Australia bar

Pretty damn impressive, IMHO, that boat didn't go over. I'd like to hear the details of how the captain kept her off the beach. The article said he had no power-
