Re: Yellowbrick - am I looking at the most affordable iridium tracking and messaging?
Great experience with InReach and their plan to only activate during the months in use. |

Re: External Chainplates on Island Packet
Contact Mack Yacht/Mack Sails in Stuart, FL. Most IP owners go there for refits. They are authorities on the subject and could give you the pros and cons along with costs. What was said earlier... |

Re: Radar is now redundant ?
Crossing the Gulf Stream from the Bahamas one night a large sailboat had lost all its lights and heading towards us. Radar picked him up; could have been messy. He was asked to shine a light on his... |

Considering a charter out of La Paz for the end of February. I’m interested in what the weather might be; where to travel during the 7-day charter (an itinerary is provided) and any other pros or... |

Re: Oyster, Tayana, Moody, Northwind or HR for blue water?
They are all excellent boats. I would also include Island Packet Yachts in the mix (there are several currently circumnavigating). It all boils down to your personal preferences, needs, wants,... |

Re: Fort Pierce to the Keys Observations++++++++++++++++++++
One suggestion to consider; a fun sailing area to explore is the Biscayne Bay area (No Name Harbor; Dinner Key Marina & mooring field and many other places). At that point you have to decide... |

Re: Seeking Sailing Instructor Recommendations in Florida
I endorse Colgate. I took a half dozen classes out of their Captiva Island office and it was the best thing I could have done to launch ocean sailing adventures. |

Re: Heading to Florida from Texas
InReach, check out their “Freedom” plan which allows you to activate and deactivate your plan at will. We did that trip (Corpus Christi to Tampa Bay in 2015. We stopped at Grand Isle to take on... |

Re: Advice on offshore hops instead of the ICW
I would time a Ft Pierce entry with care. I’ve run into a wicked current there. Personally I’d prefer Stuart or Lake Worth. |

Re: Best passage/route online planning tool?
I agree with what psk125 said. There is somewhat of a debate whether paper charts are necessary in this age if technology. I believe they are essential for the reasons already noted, but also for... |

Recently SV TRANCE was attacked in the Puget Sound area (not positive of exact location). They hauled the boat for repairs and continued on their journey. |

Re: Why the hate on Island Packets?
Wow! Interesting to read this thread. I recommend you decide what you want in a vessel than do your homework to learn which boats are designed to do what you want. IP’s are known world wide as... |

Re: Crossing the Gulf of Mexico - specific scenario
All of these reply’s have good points. I will just add we sailed from Corpus Christi to Tampa Bay in early May about 4-years-ago and the weather was great. May is a good time to cross. |

Re: Cat Lovers: Moving Kitty Cat onboard?
I brought an older Siamese aboard my 38’ sailboat. The flight from the W coast to the E coast took a lot out of her. She adjusted well; only got seasick once or twice; fell off once while at dock... |

Re: Nobody cruises from San Francisco to Miami
There is an Island Packet making a circumnavigation now that is doing that route. They left the Annapolis area, sailed down the E. Coast, through the canal, up the west coast and are now in Alaska. ... |
