After further research, from the RYA and CA in the UK, it looks as though after 3 years the original owner has a good chance of avoiding a 2nd dose of VAT, though not a new owner.

Perhaps a good reason to be cautious when accepting a sales broker's survey, from a surveyor they (as it turns out) know...

Yes, I can see that. Particularly as the original survey makes it clear that it's addressed specifically to the current owner (or a previously interested buyer).

We're seriously interested in a 40' sailboat, the owner's broker has supplied us with a Jun'23 survey....so around 6-7 months old....and the boat has been on the hard (through a hurricane season).

I guess most things involved with boat research & purchase, viewing facilities, surveyor, accommodation, getting to Rio etc.

Having said that, Facebook and NoForeignLand have been useful....
