There is a semi abandoned, but afloat Quassar in Alvor Portugal. Not sure how you find out about it and whether it is for sale.

Re: For us it was a bad idea

Ours is slightly larger than our mainsail 65 vs 63sqm has a high clew to clear the coach roof and is sheeted inboard of the shrouds. It is at the limit when sailing close to wind speed 7knots in...

I have a LifePO house bank (400AH) and 2 x small (24AH) AGM start batteries. (2 engines)

With my old AGM house bank (600AH) no start batteries, I would run my engines when anchoring that would...

Re: Do you leave your screecher hoisted?

Re: Sea Anchors, most complicated simple thing ever

My mistake. 53inches is the other extreme more akin to a drogue. Is this a parachute or a conical drogue? Either way rigging it with a bridle to bow and a midships cleat would probably provide some...

Re: Sea Anchors, most complicated simple thing ever

That is a supermassive sea anchor for a 30ft boat. A typical size for a 30ft boat would be 12ft. Handling the sheer volume of a 53ft sea anchor would be pretty daunting.

Re: Why are stub keels short?

Picture maybe! How long and deep are the keels on your boat?
Stub keels are always a performance compromise when compared to dagger boards. They have many advantages in terms of practicality but...

Re: Do you leave your screecher hoisted?

This sounds more like a gennaker than a screecher, ours is very light and only good for winds under 10 knots.
Do you run it from a bow sprit? Limited foredeck space on a mono makes hoisting and...

Re: Waterline Brush

A line from the toe rail provides a fulcrum to a broom used from a dinghy.

Often thought about an upside down mechanical car wash arrangement.

What about a swimming pool crawler cleaner,...

Re: Please (try to) avoid sailing/transiting through race courses

I can recall an incident from many years ago. An 80ft Thames barge was proceeding down the Thames with aid of the ebbing tide. A group of dinghies were racing a course that traversed the entire...

Re: Running a two stroke from a large static tank? How to deal with mix?

I ran 2 x inboard 2 strokes for 10 years, using 4 x 60 litre fixed tanks. Never had a problem with fuel. Much less hassle than the diesel I now have. I always mixed in jerry can before adding to the...

Re: Do you leave your screecher hoisted?

I commissioned my screecher without UV protection that makes it much lighter and less bulky. It is also more efficient in light airs which is what it is for after all. Like Tin Tin it is only ever up...

Re: Raymarine ST60 System Acting Up

1. You can hot swap SeaTalk items.
2. SeaTalk is not NMEA you need a converter E85001 or Quark multiplexor to get NMEA data out.
3. Are all the ST60 instruments are running the same Firmware...

Re: Experience with Custom Mattress Factory?

Check the weight, we tried a latex core and it was like wrestling a jelly fish every time we made it. Making an odd shaped bed in a confined space can be challenging.
