Re: Lagoon Confidence Lacking

Remember any coded vessel is legally required to keep plywood infills for any hatch within a certain distance of the waterline - that's a rule that goes back decades so has nothing to do with Lagoon...

Re: Catana 471 vendor hiding survey

I have to say all the insults to the OP are unjustified

if a vendor says he has surveys and agrees to send them, then reneges on that it is the vendor who is being out of order. Perhaps he...

Re: Threaded Eye Stud for deck attachment of stay

In this case it is a catamaran the deck (I was trying to simplify) is a 6mm wall aluminium cross beam of 6 inch by 8 inch oval section.

Unfortunately, I can't get a long enough eye bolt with the...

Re: Standing Rig: Has anyone replaced SS wire with Dyneema?

What size wire do you need to replace ? Blue Wave have recently made some bigger fittings up to 16mm rope (which is right for 10mm wire replacement, maybe 12mm) but some of their fittings like the...

Re: Threaded Eye Stud for deck attachment of stay

Ah I am in the UK where metric is king! Though as long as the SWL is correct it doesn't matter if I go with 16mm or 5/8th etc

Threaded Eye Stud for deck attachment of stay

I have a strongpoint on the deck for a forestay attachment - is there any reason you guys can think of not to use an M16 Threaded Eye Stud - which for example is fitted to one end of my turnbuckle to...

Re: HH 44 hull #1 Sea Trials

They did note the sea was quite flat in an offshore breeze but they had a lot of sail up some of the time and very good winds and they did speeds I am very very happy with on my 40 year old 50ft...

Re: HH 44 by the Wynss

Or you do as I did and wire 10mm cable from batteries to each hull - just two fused for maximum load. Then from the hub in each hull we have two smaller distribution nodes on 6mm cable and finally...

Re: HH 44 by the Wynss

I appreciate that view - having lived aboard , continuously cruising for almost 11 years now though, personally I really appreciate speed. Not 25 knots Dazcat type speed , but 10-12 knots even in...

Re: HH 44 by the Wynss

I can't see how the HH can perform to the hype they set when announced a couple of years ago with the sheer amount of heavy stuff aboard

The design will make it faster than a Lagoon etc sure but...

Re: Synthetic forestay attachment

Thanks Fxykty

I've done a lot of maths on load path and given the fairly conservative rigging and the fact that the original beam was mast section (around 3mm wall) which was hurricane damaged...

Synthetic forestay attachment

I have a cat with an aluminium crossbeam - somewhat more heavy duty than the normal mast section (about 6mm wall thickness)

Currently the steel wire forestay comes down to a plate which then has...

Re: Main Sail Size/Aspect Ratio

I am not getting rid of the backstays - just changing them to running back stays so one will always be tight but off the wind the other will slacked off to let the boom out further. The rest of the...

Re: Main Sail Size/Aspect Ratio

Thanks. Mast is actually 16m so I meant 15 above the boom. Prout's were considered very overbuilt and when I refitted her I built bigger chainplates (though I may laminate in carbon ones this...

Main Sail Size/Aspect Ratio

So my at has a much shorter mast than most built more recently as Prout went with conservative rigs to counter the multihulls capsize prejudice in the 70s and 80s.

She's a 15m cat with an 8 wire...

Re: Extremely perplexing solar problem

I've used and sold a lot of Renogy and lot of Victron. I have found from installing hundreds of Renogy panels and MPPT (and a couple of PWM for small installs of like a 50w panel) that their stuff is...

Kite size?

My boat is a Prout Quasar 50. She is 15m with 14m WLL and about a 12:1 beam to length hull ratio. Her cruising weight is 9T and light ships about 7.5T (after much work to bring it down)

She has...

Re: Older, Quality Cats

Well in 5 years with mine I've not had any real slamming at all - now I will admit that I rebuilt mine very light so she sits 3 or 4 inches higher in the water but its also about the fine hulls and...

Re: Older, Quality Cats

I know you said no Prout's but maybe look at the Quasar 50 -unlike all other Prout's but solidly built, fine hulls so very quick, forward stepped mast so big main, lots of room and low windage.

Seagull Striker Design

So my 50 foot cat was built with a bridle system off a front beam to take the forestay. This means the forestay starts a couple of feet above the beam and I want to change it for a seagull striker so...
