Re: Surveyor in Long Island, NY area?

I don't have his address, but I have his phone number and e-mail. He did my survey, and I was happy. I believe he's in Suffolk County.

Re: Westport, CT Long Island Sound to NY Harbor Advice

Make sure you get the tides right. Consult your Eldridge's for current change at the Throgs Neck Bridge. The current can run 4-5 knots. Be careful.

Re: New and clueless... Just bought a Catalina 27 tall rig... Any advice for the newb

Owned a tall rig Catalina 27 for many years. A very sweet sailer. I found that with the tall rig I had to put a reef in the mailsail when it blew over 12 knots.

Re: Duo Gen wind/water generator

What's the price? You're supposed to have the asking price on items for sale. Look at the forum rules.

Re: Tartan 40, A solid Coastal Cruiser?

I made 2 round trips to Bermuda in 1988, 1989 (Marion, Newport) on a Tartan 40 centerboard version. Though not a big fan of the centerboard, it makes a bit of noise, it worked out well.
Hit some...

Re: Solar panel installation help

If you are only going to use the charge controller for solar, then you might want to look at the Flexcharge PV7D. It can handle 7 amps (more amps than a 100 watt panel), and two battery banks. It...

Re: O'day 35' late Eighties

I owned a 1986 O'Day 35 from 1998 to 2010. I was very happy with the boat, and traded it in for an O'Day 40. The 35 was, in my opinion, a sweet sailing boat.
FYI the O'Day 40 is the Jeanneau Sun...

Re: Need Advice: Vineyard Haven to Oyster Bay

I've made this trip several times.
You should buy a copy of Eldridges, as it has complete current tables for the area. Research carefully, and time you trip with the current.
There will probably...

Re: O'Day 30 opinions.

My two cents here. I owned an O'Day 31 for several years, and have sailed Catalina 30's. Note that I now sail an O'Day 40.
Both the O'Day and the Catalina are very similar boats. They both sail...

Re: Sail Lofts Long Island

There are two that I use. They're both in Huntington, NY. North Sails has a loft in Huntington. Do does Doyle sails, their loft being near the Huntington Rail Road station. I've used both, and...

Re: Timing Sandy Hook to Hells Gate (and to LI sound)

The Eldridge Tide and Pilot Book, 2013, has detailed information about the current changes on Long Island Sound and The Race. If planned correctly you'll get a big boost from the current. I...

Re: Good Prescription Sunglasses for Sailing ?

Have you checked out Warby-Parker? They're only online at: warbyparker.com. I have a pair. They're very good quality, and the price isn't bad. I highly recommend them.

Re: How many watts? And how many 12v batteries

This brings back memories, I grew up with a Columbia Contender! Many happy sailing memories. With that said, I own an O'Day 40, with no refrigeration, all LED lights, stereo, and laptop. My 80...
