I have the Iridium and it is great . A little expensive for just routine use.
I used mine to check in with family on crossings and isolated areas .

OK I sailed on lakes and coastal cruising. I bought a cat from Moorings. I did not expect all of the outrageous cost of maintenance . the cost to insurance seemed out of site but I got good coverage...

Postpone the buy . never get in a hurry to buy a sail boat .
Even an experienced surveyor can miss something you could catch . The miss could cost you thousands later.

Single handed sailing is no big deal if you are prepared.
All lines lead aft , Electric winch and dock lines lead to helm station. It is all prep.
And knowledge of sailing

I actually have a lancer setting in my yard on a trailer.
My charger is under the sink on the starboard side . the bilge pump is 12 volts. I used a very small solar panel to keep the boat charged...
