Re: How many winches do I need?

Personally (and I'm confident that all experienced sailors would agree), your question SHOULD be "How many years of sailing experience do I need before deciding what kind of boat to build (or buy)?"...

West Marine's recent warranty issues

West Marine's [latest] buyout and previous warranties...

I'm wondering what kind of experience others have had with West Marine recently, following what is now [at least] their third ownership and...

Re: What do you think of my thru hull condition?

With all due respect, I'm fairly certain that these are NOT "bronze" at all, but straight off the plumbing shelf at the corner hardware store!

Re: What do you think of my thru hull condition?

I think the first thing to replace is the incompetent idiot that calls himself a "surveyor"!!!

Re: Navico tp300cx and CP600 manual needed

Your Monitor vane is definitely a more reliable option. I use a Cape Horn vane, but it's more of a pain to set up under way. I always like to play around with other options, so if you decide not to...

Talking Re: Deep fryer oil in diesel

Next you might try re-routing your blackwater plumbing into your engine's cooling sytem. That way you won't need to add coolant OR do your normal pump-outs. Should the engine start to run a little...

Re: Hurth transmission parts recommendations?

If you’re referring to the left side where the cooler would be mounted, and that’s all it says, my guess would be an HBW10 or HBW150. It’s hard to tell. There is likely a small tag on the top (if...

Re: Hurth transmission parts recommendations?

The rebuild isn't too difficult, but you will need someone to press off and back on some of the parts with a hydraulic press. Do you at least know the transmission make?

What is your engine and transmission? And what are you planning to do?

Re: Hurth transmission parts recommendations?

JohnV,

This is a very old post, but I just came across it with a similar situation. I'm wondering who you ended up using for a parts source and your satisfaction in the end.

Re: NEED HELP WITH HURTH TRANSMISSION ID...

Indeed? You're certain? No question about it? How about if you knew that the HBW-10, HBW-125 and HBW-150 used the same case? Damn frustrating, isn't it? Fortunately, they all use the same master...

Re: NEED HELP WITH HURTH TRANSMISSION ID...

FPNC - Did I misunderstand your statement?

In your first post, you said: "The blue painted gear in your attached photo is an HBW 150 or ZF 15M. Not an HBW 10."

In the second post, you said:...

Re: NEED HELP WITH HURTH TRANSMISSION ID...

Actually, sometimes the stamp IS a thin metal plate on TOP of the case, on the same side as the shift lever. At other times it stamped directly INTO the case, as you describe.

It's difficult to...

Re: NEED HELP WITH HURTH TRANSMISSION ID...

Thank you!! That's a really big help (if you are certain). And it's something that even the Hurth suppliers and distributors couldn't tell me. You may have just saved me the incredible expense and...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

A true "cruising boat" (in the W32 category) was never intended to have a "shore power lifeline". If your'e truly intending to "cruise for 2 years in the Pacific, living on the hook the whole...

Re: What catamaran is this

I don't recognize it, and can't think of any cats designed to sail with the mast UNDER the hull. My guess would be that it's from New Zealand, Australia, or somewhere else "down under".

Re: I'm an idiot. Broke my Waeco fridge

I would try West System's G-Flex. I've had much better luck getting it adhere to a difficult surface, like aluminum. I would cut a small round "band-aid" of fiberglass cloth and glue it over the...
