Anyone tried this 24V 13A 60bar RO pump?

There is a 24V DC / 13A stainless steel 60 bar pump on Alibaba that seems perfect for a boat diy water maker system. See;...

Re: Catamaran Capsize.

Is that a Schionning Spirited 380? Kind of looks like it from the porthole and pontoons.

Extremely sad story.

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

We'll I'm glad this thread is getting back to safety at sea and concern for the missing sailors.

I don't have time to properly argue this subject now, but in a few weeks when my schedule opens up...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

I totally agree with this. Risk is much higher for singlehanded and doublehanded boats. This includes doublehanded parents with young children.

Properly crewed boats are probably relatively safe...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

I'm not lecturing you on anything. Just pointing out crossing the Pacific is a relatively dangerous activity. Important for people to know this before they set out.

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

Mate, I spent 20 years there. It truly is amazing to see how much time they spend in cars.:banghead:

But I'm not assuming anything just looking at the general fatality rates for the entire...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

We are not talking about offshore sailing. We are talking about people sailing shorthanded on small boats crossing the Pacific. Fatigue on short handed sailors and their small vessels is extreme on...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

Yes, you are right. Calculation error. Should be 150 times more dangerous, not 600 times more dangerous

My point is the same. Crossing the Pacific Ocean, short handed, on a small boat (say under...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

It is exactly apples to apples. Three months on land with average car usage versus three months crossing the Pacific.

This thread is not about regular cruising, it is about people missing crossing...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

"Commercial boats use Watch keeping alarms that are never turned off when under way."

We could learn from them. AIS/radar alarms and GPS chartplotters certainly reduce risk.

However, I think...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

This is common refrain by cruising sailors. At worse, it is a trick used to get people who are rationally scared of offshore sailing to go offshore sailing.

It is true the chance of the general...

Re: Insurance or not?

Boat insurance is probably a bargain for cruisers. In the boat insurance pool the vast majority of boat owners seldomly use their boats. For every cruising boat their must be at least a thousand...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

In 2013, I collected as much data as possible about the number of ocean crossings made in sailboats over many years and the number of sailboat losses and/or disappearances. Based on the data...

Re: Picking up a moring in Brisbane River

Just one more note, knowing the time and hassle of checking in and tying up I would anchor in the river next time. Plenty of room.

We also took city moorings in the boat basin in New York City....

Re: Picking up a moring in Brisbane River

OK, I would recommend you go through the paperwork in advance. The process is like a marina but you have to walk across town to an obscure office to submit the paperwork and then again to pick up...

Re: Picking up a moring in Brisbane River

We took a pile mooring next to the Botanic Gardens in Brisbane yesterday.

Are you asking about the mooring procedure or the bureaucratic process?

Does the...

Re: Anchorages in Moreton Bay

Re: What is The Right Age for Sailing With Kids

Every age has its challenges. For me personally, I found a 34' boat with a 3-4yo too small , but a 43' boat where our 7yo boy has his own cabin lis OK. We know others doing just fine on smaller boats...

Looks like a pretty good piece of gear. Will cost a lot to get a replacement bronze strainer.

Why not clean it up and keep it? You should be checking your strainer regularly so the same problem...

Re: To Steel Hull or Not?

Pluses - you get much more boat for your money; much stronger (less worry around docks or other people driving boats).

Minuses - you need to spend about a day a month chasing rust; slower; and if...
