Re: Catalina Morgan 440

I had hoped for someone with first hand experience to comment on the boat. That is research. I regret being rude but my underlying point is no less valid for my poor representation of it.

Re: Catalina Morgan 440

Thanks. And for the record sailor boy, re read your post and you tell me what use it is beyond massaging your own ego and acting the salty expert? We could say almost any boat would fulfil "capable...

Catalina Morgan 440

Does anyone have a view on the Catalina Morgan 440 as a bluewater capable liveaboard?
They look quite well built? But they seem cheap compared to similar styled boats... Any thoughts? I can't find a...

Re: Ask Vs Sale price

I think that between what you say td0tz about "orphan" boats and what Denver says about owners expectations you have the situation summed up...
Island Packets in particular seem far cheaper in...

Re: Ask Vs Sale price

The UK is exactly the same as the USA in that offers are normal and expected.
It does seem to me that in general the asking price for boats seems quite high in the USA. Of course it is very...

Re: Ask Vs Sale price

Thanks. That's sort of my read on it.

It's tough because it's such a limited market.

It's even harder because I am so far from the boats that interest me.

I think I will ask about some...

Ask Vs Sale price

I am particularly interested in several boats that seem most common in the Nth American market.
This is a market I have no experience of.
Models include Passports, Morgan and IPs.
Please don't...

Re: Has the weather gone bonkers?

Thanks Guys. Stu... I think that you have the nub of the matter. We all know every time we leave the house that the weather is a matter of statistical probabilities. What I can't decide is whether it...

Re: Would you sail now or wait until Spring 2016? Holland to the Med

Most insurance policies won't cover Biscay outside of May to September without special arrangements... Just a heads up if you set off in April.
I have sailed your route from UK to Gib.
The most...

Has the weather gone bonkers?

My wife and I are planning to move back onto a yacht in a year or so. We spent 2 years in the Med and have swallowed the anchor 12 months ago.
My concern, based on my experience and that of friends...

Re: Full keel live aboard cruiser?

Thanks to all. I have a lot of other options to investigate. I'm not ready to write a cheque yet and who knows what will be on the market in the. Year or so when I am? I have a big soft spot for IPs...

Re: Full keel live aboard cruiser?

PPS.... The little gif photo in my side window was taken of the sun rise over Moonshines bow on passage between Menorca and Sardinea... 200 mile crossing is one of the longest common passages in the...

Re: Full keel live aboard cruiser?

Just to offer an explanation for myself.... It's the rack and pinion steering that sells it to me. The man who designed that... Well he cares about getting home after a day's sailing. That's how I...

Re: Full keel live aboard cruiser?

As for the gentleman advising light weight boats are better... I have actually sailed the Mesina Straight having circumnavigated Sicily.

Re: Full keel live aboard cruiser?

Hi and thanks.
The full keel hang up is more an issue of the protected rudder and prop. And also a shallow draft benefit... Otherwise an older fin keel cruiser would suit very well.
The only thing...

Re: Full keel live aboard cruiser?

Where to buy.. Europe would be better but USA would be ok. I suspect an Island Packet will be the way to go and the choice in the USA is far better.
How old... I am not afraid of working on a boat...

Re: Full keel live aboard cruiser?

Thanks guys. budget...£250,000 or about 400,000USD Max but less would be better.
Size. Yes, I think 43ft is a bare minimum and would prefer 50ft. I know everyone will disagree but if you haven't...

Can anyone suggest a quality yacht preferably with full keel or modified full keel?
I am familiar with Island Packet and Hans Christian....

Re: LED Running lights advice

This is one area where cheap may be a big mistake... I fitted Hella NaviLED pros and a year later am still very happy with them.
