    Biography
Hello to all cruisers and boat owners!
It’s a while that I read this forum and by now it is my source of inspiration number one.
As many of you, I’m looking forward for the right combination of events to become a full-time cruiser.
Let me introduce myself: my name is Vincenzo Greco, Italian national but living abroad for most of my life. My entire career has been always related to the sea: attended the Nautical College, worked 15 years as Marine Engineer of which the last five as Chief Engineer with no limitations, mainly on chemical tankers. After that, I began my shore activity as Hull & Machinery Class Surveyor with RINA. Then I became fleet manager for a small shipping company and then turned back to my surveyor job, this time as Senior hull & Machinery Class Surveyor with Lloyd’s Register. During these years I have been the area expert of structural surveys (and provided internal and external training on this subject to more than 1200 people), forensic structural surveyor, industrial QC inspector, and EC certification surveyor for some famous yacht builders. Now I’m working as Fleet Regulatory Manager for a leading offshore company based in Monaco.
I am now living in the South of France and I have heard quite a number of distressing stories about the “independence” of the local yacht surveyors. It looks like most of them are appointed by the brokers, paid by the buyers, and working for the sellers. This is exactly why I have decided to spend some of my weekends at disposal of potential buyers as a truly independent surveyor. I can survey any type and size of boat, including mega-yachts, motor and sail. I can carry out osmosis measurements, NDEs, UT measurements, rigging inspections and tuning checks. I can inspect boats afloat and on the hard. I can verify compliance against a number of Codes, and Directives, and prepare yachts for statutory and class inspections. My working area would be initially the South of France and Northern Italy, perhaps Spain, Portugal and the Atlantic Coast and the Tyrrhenian sea; however, should this activity become my main job, I could extend my range to most Europe and Mediterranean.
Since a surveyor with the above features would probably not be too advertised by brokers, I launch this “message in a bottle”, just in case that somebody is planning to buy a boat in these areas and wants to make sure that his/her prospective boat is properly assessed. As an additional note, please consider that I’ll do this in my spare time (I’ve got a good job anyway), so my availability might be limited. If you need, please PM me for my contact details.
Thanks for your attention and Fair Winds!
    Vincenzo “Vinnie” Greco
