I ran across a post of yours that describes exactly what I am trying to do with my Rawson 30 pilothouse sailboat, attach an Aries windvane bypassing the hydraulic steering. From your description you attached under the back lazarette to the rudder post using a quadrant? I have been looking at creating and attaching a short stub metal steering tiller but am concerned that the length of the tiller would not allow enough leverage for the system to work. What I am curious about is your use of a quadrant. I assume you added the quadrant just for the windvane and it wasn't necessary for the hydraulic steering? Do you have any pics you could share of your setup. Of all my many hours and years of research your description of your setup seems to match most closely what I need to setup. Thank you so much in advance for any knowledge you can share.
