    Biography
A small a bio on what brought me to the here and now.

The first time I stepped foot on a sailboat was the early 90s when went on a 1 hour sunset cruise on a 70 foot teak Ketch operating from the V&A in CT called Maharani. An ex Royal Navy STV being skippered by n guy called Russel. ( I hope that one day I can thank him personally )

A week later I became one of her weekend charter crew. A seed was planted and a love affair born .Live as it happens, takes its twist and turns. An idea took root, but I never went sailing again.

I embarked on a very multiplicities career of engineering, woodwork, and tinkering. Over the proceeding 20 years, a plan slowly began to take shape.

I am planning on building/refitting or renovating a steel hulled 38-foot blue water cruiser as a well equipped live aboard workshop and see where the wind blows
I have always had a wanderlust and have seen the greatest part of Southern Africa. In 6 years I'm 50 and that is my planned DOD for seeing new horizons. I am in the process of buying a 12 ft daysailer to get the necessary experience /skill and paperwork

I believe that I have all of the relevant skill, equipment, space and time to finish my own project. I have a set allocated budget of X amount over 6 years for the project.
For this and other reasons I can discuss later, I do not want to buy a sail ready boat. If I have to invest the next substantial part of my life and safety on something that has to sail deep waters, I want to know every part of that vessel.

Here is a broad outline of the list of my ideas/requirements. Very few of these points are set in stone.
That is why I came to this forum.
I like to approach a problem from many angles, So please be patient with my often strange questions.

    SV. The Craftsman
Sub 40 foot steel hulled (Must be able to beach for repairs )
    Med to heavy displacement
Pilothouse saloon with large as possible wet deck
    Single masted with solo rigging

Constructive criticism and advice is always appreciated

    Regards
    Jaco
