Hey Dwight.
I've been going to Socotra at least a half dozen times a year for the last 15 or so years and have never seen any surfers.
Having said that, about 5 or 6 years ago a large group of Kite Surfers came to the island to do the southern side....If I recall correctly it was at the beginning of the windy season...so that would have been around May...ish?
They said it was world class!
Socotra also has some pretty impressive caves (in fact my kids are off this coming Friday with a group/gear to go explore some (thinking pirate treasure here) also there are some pretty cool endemic species there like the Dragon Blood tree.
And there is some scuba diving to be done. not much coral that I've heard of but lots of fish.
How old is your son?
Throw him on plane to Sana'a and maybe he can join them this weekend.
