Hi Allan - check out the latest pics on my profile - David

Hi Alan - its certainly a small world - I've seen your drawings on one of my many visits - I like the outside of the box thinking! I found after 5 years of hunting for a boat that most of the current S.A. models are old revamped (mostly stretched) designs or the new ones are charter biased (meaning calm seas) designs. Two Oceans have done an excellent job and were very accomodating as far as design changes through the project and extras being added on on a continuous basis. I found Mark to be open, honest and easy to work with. I would have to say that I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist so was a bit concerned initially about quality of finish from a S.A. builder, however I have no complaints up to this stage - busy painting the boat at the moment. Am I happy? Well, if I grin any wider I will have somewhere to moor my boat!
What to look out for - launch dates tend to be optimistic (we are five months past original - but we have also had lots of changes which needed new drawings from a very busy designer). I had mine built on a cost-plus percentage basis which certainly had a few points worth discussing if you are doing the same.
To me this was the only way to get my dream boat - all the interior designs are our (my wife and I) ideas and there are no compromises that we found on so many of the factory boats. I particularly liked the fact that every piece of equipment on the boat was discussed with me and the final decision was always handed to me. If you are going this route prepare yourself for a lot of homework - I never realised how much equipment goes on a boat! Its great to have met someone " in the same boat" - glad to help with any queries.
I leave for Cape Town on Friday so will be out of touch for 10 days - will have some new pics to show
    regards - David

    Hi David

I thought I recognised it! I was at 2 oceans in November, and saw it there. Looked really nice. I have just ordered a boat at 2oceans. The plan is to have it ready by October next year. It's the boat pictured on my avatar. My own design, a 49 ft bi-rig job. Can you give me some feedback on how you feel the build went, and the quality? Are you happy? What do I need to look out for?
    Regards

    Alan

P.S. Love to see some more pictures of the finished boat and maybe some specs???

Hi - boat is first of a new line - hull no. 2 is being built by Nexus catamarans(nexuscatamarans.com) in South Africa as a production model. I was fortunate to buy a set of hulls from them while they where still setting up their new yard - my boat is being finished by a custom yard - Two Oceans Marine( 2oceans.co.za ) and is on their website as a dl55 ( it grew a little in production ).The boat was designed by Anthony Keys ( Robertson and Caine in house designer) as a long range charter vessel for the surfer industry in Indonesia. Its designed from the ground up to carry the load it specced for - 6000 kg! All the info is in these links - cheers

Lovely boat. Did you use a yard in SA? If so, who? Where can I find some specifications on this boat?

    Regards

    Alan
